Bats don't actually chew on anything, which may be slightly different to what you have read on the internet. We have seen a lot of myths surrounding bats online, but the one about them chewing on wires (or other things) is one that we feel needs to be put right.
Seeing chewing signs around your home or building is not a good thing and is usually indicative of a wild animal infestation. It doesn't signify bats, however; bats do not chew. They have such small teeth that they just couldn't munch through some of the materials that other animals can. In fact, their teeth are so small that many people wouldn't even be aware if they were bitten by one.
Animals that do chew can often come hand in hand with bats. They can also be present on their own. You will know if you have bats because you'll probably be able to see them flying in and out of your home after dark. You will also probably hear them flapping around above your head when the sun goes down, and you'll see or smell guano if you head up into your attic.
If you do see chewing signs, you should be on the lookout for other culprits, such as squirrels, mice, rats, raccoons, etc. These are all animals that are very well known for chewing their way into properties, and they could be attracted to the dead bodies of bats (raccoons and other scavengers).
