Portland Bat Removal Tip:
4 Humane Bat Control Methods
When you discover a bat in the dim section of the house, it is recommended to remain calm. Most bats will try to avoid humans since they think that we are a large predator. Once you step inside the room, it is highly likely that the bats will immediately look for wats to escape. Be sure to keep your pets and kids away from the bats. Give it enough time and space to find its exit point.
Managing Bat Infestation Humanely
There are around 40 bat species found in Canada and the US. However, only a few of them will end up inside our house. Most of them still prefers to live in their natural habitat. Due to urbanization, more and more of them are finding shelter inside our house. Luckily, there are easy ways to get rid of them.
1. Creating an Escape Route
Usually, getting rid of the bats that ended up inside our house is just a matter of providing them with an escape route. Simply close the interior doors and open the widows that lead to their freedom. Should the bat disappeared, you may find it roosting on your furniture, curtains, or indoor plants. Avoid chasing the bats with a broom stick since this can agitate the bats and it will be more difficult for them to find their exit when they are disturbed.
2. Capturing Them
Once the bats are roosting, you may capture them using bird nets. Another way to capture them is to cover the bats with towel. You also need to stay safe while trying to remove the bat. Be certain that you are wearing gloves when trying to capture the bats. Choose a thick pair of gloves. Their small fangs will not be able to pierce through the thick gloves. You need to be careful when handling the animal since their limbs are fragile. After successfully capturing them, take them outside and set them free.
3. Exclusion Method
In case you believe you are housing a colony of bats; you may need to go outside at sunset to observe how these flying mammals are leaving your house. This is important in determining the entry points of the nuisance creature. Seal the holes except for one. You will notice that there will be some stains in the holes that is caused by the body oils secreted by the bats. Install the exclusion device on the last hole.
4. Bat House
It may be difficult if not impossible to cover all the holes in your house. However, sealing the usual entry points will make things inconvenient for them. To dissuade them from entering your house, you may try to install a more convenient roosting site. Choose a bat house that comes with multiple chambers.
It is relatively easy to keep the bats off your house without killing them or causing them any harm. Once the bats have been driven away, you can conduct repairs on the damaged part of your house to avoid the same situation in the future.
