Birmingham Bat Removal Tip:

David - I have a few questions, my wife saw a bat flying around in our house almost three weeks ago. After she saw the bat she turned on all the lights and also opened the door to the outside after she screamed of course, the door was open with all the lights on for about 30 minutes. After she screamed she lost sight of the bat last she saw it was headed towards the basement stairs, is it possible that the bat flew out the open door even with the lights on in that time and we did not see it? Also in the amount of time since she saw the bat we have not seen it since if it was still in our house or it went back to hibernating since we live in iowa would we have seen the bat again? We have had temperatures since then ranging from the upper 30s to the mid 70s the few days right after she saw it the temperature was in the upper 60s and lower 70s plus we have had a few days off and on with those warm of a temperature in the past few weeks. Also the day after she saw the bat we had an exterminator come out (i had not found your website yet or i would have called your recommended professional for my area) while he was here the next afternoon after she saw the bat with him banging around and with my dog barking loudly at the time and he barks loudly most days when in his kennel would we have seen the bat with all the noise being made? I have a few pictures of what looks like to me some sort of rodant or small animal droppings i can email you the pictures if you want to see them also there is a very small amount of what i believe to be droppings and i dont know how much there would be if the bat was still in the house with it being seen 3 weeks ago and i just found the droppings today. Thank you for your time and any information you reply back to me with. -Eric

My best guess is that you have some bats living in your house, and one woke up early out of torpor, and it either got out or more likely crawled into a small space and died. Watch your house at dusk this summer to see if bat emerge.
