4 Tips on Exterminating Bats
Before you start in killing the bats in your house, understand that there are existing laws that protect these species. Intentionally killing the bats can lead to legal troubles. However, there are instances when killing the bats will be unavoidable. For instance, if the bats are injured or sick and will be beyond rehabilitation, you will be allowed to kill them. You also need to carry additional permit and licenses to ensure that you will avoid any repercussions.
How to Exterminate the Bats
Before choosing a method, understand that there are no commercially available chemicals that you can use against bats. In addition, using chemicals is considered illegal under the law.
1. Avoid Using Glue Board
Using and setting-up articles that are meant to injure or kill the bats are unlawful. Glue board is considered very inhumane. Homeowners will be placing the glue board below the roosting place. Once the bat fell on their roost, they will immediately be stuck on the board. They will be struggling and wriggling to get out of the trap. However, they will not be able to escape the trap and will eventually die from starvation. Therefore, the bats will be experiencing days of pain and torture. This is perhaps the most gruesome way to die.
2. Avoid Fumigants
Toxic fumigants are also not allowed to use. These bat sprays contain harsh chemicals that will kill the bats. They are considered illegal in different states of the US. They will not only be detrimental on the health of the bats but will also be hazardous towards humans. Some people will use Vikane Gas that are originally meant for insects. Sadly, this product will also lead to a disastrous result.
3. Never Use Poison
There are no poisons registered to specifically kill the bats. Most homeowners will choose rodenticide to kill the bats. Nonetheless, this will often be ineffective since the bats are active hunters. They prefer to eat live insects. In the end, the bait will be eaten by a non-targeted animal. Poisons come in interesting shapes and will also have a sweet scent. It will not be impossible for a child to mistake it for a candy.
4. Choose the Better Alternatives
Bats will only be a nuisance once it ended up inside the house. When it is in its natural surroundings, it can deliver a range of benefits to mankind. Most farmers will attempt to attract these animals to help them manage insect infestation. Farmers are saving billions of cash from the bat's ability to control insect population. The best way to avoid the bat infestation is by repairing your house and installing exclusion device. Based on the law, it is your responsibility as a homeowner to guarantee that your house is in its pristine condition to keep the bats out of your house.
Exclusion and removal of bats should only be done after the end of the maternity season of the bats. This way, you can be certain that there will be no baby bats trapped inside.
