Annapolis Bat Removal Tip:

5 Areas in Our House That Bats Can Enter

We all have different views towards the bats. Some people will look at them as flying rats due to the different diseases that they may carry. Others will find them beneficial due to the benefits that they can deliver to our ecosystem. In order to avoid the damages that they can cause, bats will have to remain in their natural environment.

How the Bats Can Enter Our House

If you want to keep them outside your house, you need to know the common areas in your house where they can enter. The exclusion process will start by inspecting the different areas of your house. They can enter a gap that seems inconspicuous. Here are some of the places where you should look.

1. Roof

If you suspect that the bats are entering through your roof, you need to check if there are any loose shingles. If your shingle is above the seam, the bats can freely use this to invade our space. You should also check the roof structure close to the chimney. Any compromise on this structure can be used as a potential entry point. Masonry cracks should be immediately repaired not only to keep the bats at bay but to prevent further damages.

2. Soffit and Eaves

Another part that you should inspect would be the area where the walls and the roof meet. It would be possible for the bats to enter our attic especially if the upper portion of the walls will not be covered by trim. This is also possible if the trim has not been appropriately caulked. The bats can also be flexible and fit in the soffit and the roof vent that will not be safeguarded with wire mesh.

3. Windows and Doors

The holes and gaps in our windows and doors can also be a convenient access for the bats. Initially, they will be roosting on our windows. After managing to enter the house, they will gradually move to the other section of our house such as our basement. Check your windows for any gaps since there can be a worn-out caulk that you need to replace soon.

4. Foundation

Bats can also enter our house using the cracks in the foundation of our house. Once they do, they will usually be invading our basement and other obscure areas of the house. Bats will love to stay in the dark spaces that do not receive a high human presence.

5. Chimney

Another possible entry holes would be our chimney. You need to be careful when inspecting your chimney since their presence can surprise you. You should not smoke them out since this can kill them. Instead, you should install a chimney cap once the bat leaves the chimney to forage insects.

Once you hear the flapping and scratching noise that they create, start inspecting the key areas of your house. Small gaps on these areas will allow the bats to enter our house and cause damage.
